Apple crisp is a simple and very easy to make sweet treat. It is composed of baked apple that is sweet and mellow, with a lumpy crunch on top, with butter, oatmeal, sugar and spices.

It’s something you can eat as a snack, as a dessert or even for breakfast. It has a lot of flavor and texture when you eat it.

This is probably one of the easiest desserts to make, and above all, it is one of the easiest considering how good it is. Just add a few ingredients to the apple to cover it, and then put on top the crumble made with butter, sugar and spices and that’s it! Just like that we have a delicious sweet.

The best way to eat it is with a scoop of ice cream. The most classic is to eat it with vanilla ice cream, but a little stracciatella, walnut or even chocolate ice cream would be great.

Now, the best thing is to eat it as soon as it comes out of the oven, when it is still warm, and the apple melts in your mouth and the crumble with the oats crunches very well, and the butter that gives it so much flavor. Thus, you have a part that is hot contrasting with the ice cream that is cold, and when you eat both at the same time it tastes great.

Ingredients

For the crumble topping:

  • 1/2 C (2.30 oz) (65 gr) all purpouse flour
  • 3/4 C (5.30 oz) (150 gr) brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon, ground
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 C (4 oz) (115 gr) butter, ice and cut into small cubes
  • 1 C (3.50 oz) (100 gr) old fashioned rolled oats

For the filling:

  • 5 C (1.30 lbs) (600 gr) sliced apples, peeled and
  • 1/4 C (1.70 oz) (50 gr) granulated white sugar
  • 2 tbsp (0.50 oz) (15 gr) all purpouse flour
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 340ºF (170ºC) and grease a 8 or 9 inches (20 to 22 cm) square or circular baking pan with a little butter.

For the topping:

  • In a medium bowl, mix the flour, brown sugar, ground cinnamon and salt. Then, add in the cold butter in small cubes and mix with a fork (without using your hands so that the butter does not melt) so that everything is integrated and balls are formed, like a crumble. This whole process can also be done in a food processor, or with a small mixer (nutribullet or ninja type). Then add the oats and mix using a rubber spatula. If it will not be used immediately, put it in the fridge to keep the butter cold.

For the filling:

  • In a large bowl mix the apples, sugar, flour, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger until the apples are well coated with this mixture. Place the apples in the buttered pan.
  • Remove the topping from the fridge and place on top of the apples. Bake at 340ºF (170ºC) for 40 to 50 minutes or until the crumble begins to brown on top and the apple juices are bubbling on the sides.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool slightly on a cooling rack before serving so it does not burn.
