Preheat a pan on the stove over medium heat, and put the butter there for it to melt.
In a small bowl, place the egg and beat using a fork or whisk. Then add in the milk, vanilla, sugar and salt. and whisk again.
Once the butter has melted, pour it over the egg mixture and mix again. Place the pan on the stove again and pour some oil.
On a cutting board, cut the bread of your choice into slices about 1/2 inch (1cm) thick (the resulting shape will depend on the type of bread you use).
soak each piece of bread in the egg mixture making sure each one is perfectly coated, and then place each one on the pan to cook for about 3 min on each side.
Take out of the pan and serve with some more brown sugar and maple syrup.
Notes
*you could also add 1/2 tsp cinnamon to the egg mixture in this recipe and serve the french toast with some nuts or dried fruits as toppings.
