Well, this time we will show you how to make a chocolate and oats turron that is sugar-fee. You read that right: sugar free. We achieve this in two ways, using cookies (already made, storebought) without sugar and by not adding any extra sugar in the preparation.

This way, if you need it, or because you want it, you will be able to enjoy this oats and chocolate turron without having to worry about sugar.

About the type of cookies to use in this case. There are a lot of brands that sell redy-made cookies that are sugar-free. Many of them do, however, contain some type of sweetener. In this case, and depending on your needs, you have to look for the cookies that suit you best. Whether you choose cookies with sweeteners, or sugar-free cookies that do not contain any other type of sweeteners.

In case you need to be absolutely sure about the ingredients that the cookies contain, the best thing to do is to make your own sugar-free cookies. Here we used Gullón’s zero sugar cookies. Here below, in the recipe we specify the type, so that, if you want to use the same brand, you can use them if you want. However, there are other brands that offer sugar-free cookies, so luckily, you currently have several options.

Total Time 2 hours 20 minutes
Servings: 8
Course: Dessert, Snack
Cuisine: German

Ingredients

  • 4.20 oz (120 gr) sugar-free dark chocolate, cut into small pieces
  • 1/3 C (2.60 oz) (75 gr) unsalted butter
  • 1/2 C sugar-free oats cookies (we used the zero sugar-free digestive oats gullon cookies) we used about 5 cookies (in small chunks)
  • 1/2 C (1.60 oz) (45 gr) rolled oats
  • 3 tbsp (0.85 oz) (24 gr) sugar-free cocoa powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 6 oz (170 gr) sugar-free fiber cookies (we used the fiber zero sugar-free gullon cookies)

Method

  1. Place baking paper or plastic wrap in a small rectangular mold of approximately 7.80 inches x 5.90 inches (20 cm x 15 cm).
  2. Melt the chocolate in pieces with the butter, which can be done in two ways. The first is in a double boiler, placing a medium saucepan with plenty of water over medium heat. Then, add both ingredients to a large heat-resistant bowl and place it on top of the pot with water (without touching the water) so that they melt with the steam.
The second is in the microwave, adding both ingredients to a medium microwave-safe bowl and then melting them for 30-second intervals, i.e., put the bowl in the microwave for 30 seconds and take it out after this time to mix a little with a spoon. Repeat the process until the chocolate is completely melted.
  3. To the same bowl with the chocolate, add the oatmeal cookies, oat flakes, cocoa powder and pinch of salt. Mix with a rubber spatula until all the ingredients are perfectly integrated and a slightly thick paste is formed.
  4. To form the nougat, arrange a layer of fiber cookies in the base of the mold, if necessary the cookies can be cut to fit well. Then add a third of the chocolate paste on top and spread it evenly with a spoon.
  5. Repeat this process two more times until 3 layers of chocolate paste and cookies are formed. Once the nougat is ready, cover it with plastic wrap and refrigerate it for 2 hours to give it more shape.
  6. Once refrigerated, cut the nougat into approximately 8 or 9 portions and it is ready.
