An easy dessert to take a break from the holiday season and New Year’s Eve’s cooking and baking? Well, we bring you these chocolate chip scones that will drive you crazy. Scones are a type of dessert or biscuit that we love, because they are quick to make and they are always delicious and decadent.
They are so charming and have this artisan feel to them. They feel very “homemade”. We really enjoy when they end up having an irregular shape. That is precisely one of the best things about scones, that they look even prettier when they are imperfect.
Scones can actually be made in many different flavors. There are the classic scones, ans also some other recipes that are something very similar to scones, but adapted to how they are made in Mexico, for example, like the bisquets. Or others like the easy biscuits that are similar pastries to the classic scones.
I like all of them very much. I truly enjoy them with a good cup of tea or coffee. This is because on their own they usually have a fairly neutral flavor. They taste mostly like butter or dairy, in general, and who doesn’t like this taste like milk (now is when you tell me that you don’t like it haha).
If you’ve never made scones before, don’t panic, because it’s probably one of the easiest desserts you’ll find. In fact, it’s perfect for beginners. This way you’ll be more confident every time.
The only thing to be careful with is when mixing the butter with the flour. The butter has to be very cold, and ideally it should not lose this temperature when it is integrated into the mixture, but should maintain it. So the best and easiest of all is to use a food processor to do it. But if you don’t have one then do it with your fingers or a couple of forks being careful not to heat or melt the butter with your body temperature.

Method
Preheat the oven to 392º F (200° C). Grease with butter and line a large rectangular baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl add the flour with the baking powder, baking soda, sugar and salt. Mix with a spoon so that everything is very well integrated.
Add the very cold butter and knead with a pastry blender or with your fingertips until a sandy dough is formed and the butter is in small but still visible pieces. It is important to work quickly so that the butter maintains its cold temperature. This step can also be done in a food processor.
Add in the chocolate chips, sour cream and vanilla extract, integrating with a rubber spatula or your hands until the ingredients begin to come together. The dough will look a little crumbly but it is important not to overwork it.
Place the dough on a clean, lightly floured surface. With your hands, form it into a circular shape, trying to make it about 4 cm thick. The dough will be a little sticky so it should be done quickly. With a sharp knife or a dough cutter, cut the circle into 8 triangles of the same size, like a pizza.
Place the scones on the baking sheet, at least 5 cm apart from each other. Sprinkle them with a little sugar and bake at 392º F (200° C) for 20-22 minutes until lightly browned.
Once ready, take them out of the oven and let them cool down for 10 minutes before enjoying. Ready!
We created this blog as a way to save all the recipes we make at home. We started making mostly desserts a long time ago as a hobbie. It soon turned into something else.
