How to make Apple fritters

When you eat it, you notice the crispy outer layer, then the soft and fluffy cake inside. Then you notice the flavor of all the autumnal spices and the apple chunks of course.

The best Apple fritters

They’re very easy to make, and I guarantee that when you make them, they’ll be gone in no time. The best thing is to eat them the very same day you make them, like all fried foods. The next day, they’ll lose that crispy texture that’s unique to fried foods and that I think we all enjoy so much. That’s one of my favorite parts.

The best thing to do is to decorate them with a little powdered sugar on top. Because no, these fritters aren’t as sweet on their own as you might imagine. And that touch of sugar, in addition to making them look prettier, gives them an extra something that is much appreciated. Especially if you’re like me, one of those people who loves sweets, of course.

As for the apples to use, here we use red apples, and I think they work very well. But you can actually use any type of apple you like, as long as it has a firm texture, so that it holds up well when frying the fritters.

Ingredients

  • 2 red apples, or green, medium size, peeled and cut into small cubes
  • 1 1/2 C (190 gr) all purpouse flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp (7.5 gr) baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp (2.5 gr) salt
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1 egg, big
  • 1/4 C (50 gr) white sugar
  • 3/4 C (180 ml) whole milk
  • 1 tbsp (15 gr) unsalted butter, melted
  • Enough vegetable oil for frying (canola, sunflower, etc.)
  • confectioners sugar (powdered sugar)

Method

  1. In a medium bowl, sift the flour with the baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Mix with a spoon and set aside.
  2. Separately, in a large bowl, add the egg and sugar. Beat with a whisk for 1 minute, until the mixture becomes slightly frothy. Add the milk along with the melted butter and beat for a few more seconds until all the ingredients are thoroughly combined.
  3. Add the flour mixture and beat for 20 seconds, just until completely incorporated. Finally, add the diced apple and mix until smooth and homogeneous.
  4. Place the oil in a medium saucepan and bring to medium heat. You will need approximately 5 cm of oil, so the amount will depend on the size of the pan. The oil should be at a temperature of 190°C when frying the fritters, so adjust the heat as necessary.
  5. Once the oil is hot, use an ice cream scoop or two spoons to scoop up some of the mixture and form the fritters directly in the oil. Cook in batches of 4 or depending on the size of the pot, but it is important not to add too many at once. They should be cooked for 2-3 minutes, moving them when necessary with a spatula so that they are golden brown on all sides.
  6. When the first batch of fritters is ready, remove them from the oil and place them on a large plate lined with paper towels to remove excess oil. Repeat the process until you have approximately 16 fritters.
  7. Once ready, sprinkle the fritters with powdered sugar and serve hot. They should be eaten the same day for the best texture and flavor.
