Puff pastry apple rings

We recently ventured into making a tarte tatin, a classic puff pastry recipe with apples. We were so inspired that we wanted to continue with the idea of apples and puff pastry together, especially for this time of year that we love so much. So here we have these puff pastry apple rings.

Christmas is one of those times of year that smells like home, laughter, and shared moments. These are days when the kitchen becomes the heart of the home, where everyone gathers while preparing simple (or sometimes not so simple) recipes that are full of love.

These puff pastry apple rings are born precisely from that spirit: a super easy, delicious dessert that is perfect for the Christmas season. They are ideal for sharing with the family and do not require complicated ingredients.

The recipe is very simple: cut the apples into thick slices and remove the core. Then roll the puff pastry around them, passing the strip through the hole in the middle, which gives them a very pretty and unique shape. As if they were doughnuts.

When baked, the puff pastry turns golden brown and crispy, while the apple remains soft and juicy inside. To finish, simply sprinkle a little powdered sugar on top, which gives them the perfect sweet touch and a very appetizing appearance.

More than just a dessert, these puff pastry apples are an excuse to share. Because at Christmas, food is not just food: it’s a way to bring people together, create memories, and celebrate being around the table.

These puff pastry apples are a quick, inexpensive dessert with an irresistible homemade flavor, perfect for accompanying a hot drink or surprising your guests without spending hours in the kitchen.

Ingredients

  • 1 piece of puff pastry 13.80 x 9.85 inches aproximately (35 x 25 cm)
  • 2 red apples, medium size
  • 1/4 C (1.76 oz) (50 gr) white sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1 egg, for
  • confectioners sugar (powdered sugar), for decorating

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 190°C. Grease a large rectangular baking pan with a little butter. Peel the apples and cut them into slices approximately 1.5 cm thick. Use an apple corer or a knife to enlarge the center hole in the slices.
  2. Mix the sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Dip each apple slice in this mixture to coat both sides.
  3. Cut the puff pastry with a pizza cutter or knife into long, thin strips, 1.25 cm wide or less. Carefully wrap the apple slices with the puff pastry strips, passing them through the center hole. Stretch the dough slightly as you wrap. Join additional strips of dough if necessary to wrap each apple slice well.
  4. Place the wrapped apples in the baking pan and brush with egg using a pastry brush. Bake at 375°F for about 25-30 minutes, until golden brown. Once ready, sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve.
